Frequently asked questions

Everything we get asked on the first phone call. If yours isn't here, just ring us on (267) 414-6046.

Selling us your car

How do I get an offer on my car?

Send us the year, make, model, mileage and a handful of photos through the offer form, or text the photos to (267) 414-6046. A 4ByFreak buyer comes back with a firm number the same day, usually within a couple of hours.

Do you buy outright or take cars on consignment?

Both. Most of what we sell we bought outright — that is the fastest route for you, with a firm offer and payment the same business day you accept. For the right car we also take consignment: you keep the title while we photograph, market and sell it from our shop for an agreed fee. Tell us which you prefer and we will price both.

How and when do I get paid?

The same business day you accept the offer, by wire transfer or cashier's check — your choice. If there is a loan on the car we pay the lender directly and send you the balance.

Do you buy cars outside Pennsylvania?

Yes. We buy nationwide and arrange the transport ourselves, at our cost, with carriers we have used before. You do not need to deliver the car or meet a truck at a terminal.

What kind of cars are you looking for?

Collectible cars, trucks and 4×4s: modern classics, luxury and exotics, and clean low-mileage trucks. Porsche 911s, Toyota Land Cruisers and Supras, Land Rover Defenders, Lexus LX and GX, Ford Raptors and Broncos, AMG Mercedes and Ferrari are all regulars. Condition, mileage and history matter more to us than the badge — a well-kept Suburban is more interesting than a tired exotic.

Will you buy a car that isn't running?

Sometimes. We have our own mechanics, so a non-runner with a known fault and a clean title can still get an offer — tell us what is wrong and we will price it honestly. Long-dead project cars and cars without a title are usually a pass.

What paperwork do I need to sell?

The title (or the lender's details if there is a loan), a photo ID matching the title, and the keys. We handle the bill of sale, lien payoff, odometer statement and any notary requirement at pickup.

Is the offer really free and no-obligation?

Yes. There is no fee, no inspection charge and no obligation. We are not here to sell you anything — the only thing we want is the chance to make the best offer on your car.

Buying from us

Can I buy a car without seeing it in person?

Most of our buyers do. We shoot hundreds of photos per car, including the flaws, and we will walk you around the car on a video call before you commit to anything. If you would rather have a third party look at it, we welcome pre-purchase inspections.

Why do some cars say "call for pricing"?

Because the car is still going through our shop. Every car gets a mechanical once-over, detail and photo shoot before we set a retail price, and until that is done we would rather tell you the honest number on the phone than post one we may change.

Can I have a pre-purchase inspection done?

Yes, and we encourage it. You choose an independent shop, we make the car available and give them access. We would rather you buy with confidence than have a surprise later.

Do you take trade-ins?

Yes, if it is something we would buy anyway — collectible cars, trucks and 4×4s. We price the trade the same way we price any purchase: a firm number, no games. Ordinary daily drivers are usually better sold elsewhere.

Do you offer financing?

We do not finance in-house. Most buyers pay cash or wire, or arrange financing through their own bank or a collector-car lender. We work with your lender's paperwork.

Shipping and delivery

Do you ship out of state?

Yes — we ship nationwide every week and worldwide by request, through carriers we have used before rather than an open load board. Request a shipping quote →

How much does shipping cost?

It depends on distance, open or enclosed transport, whether the car runs and how busy the route is. Send us the two ZIP codes and we will come back with a real number.

Open or enclosed — which should I pick?

If the car is replaceable, open transport is fine and cheaper. If it is collectible, freshly painted or low enough to need a liftgate, pay for enclosed. We will tell you honestly which one your car needs.

Is the car insured in transit?

Yes. Carriers carry cargo insurance, and enclosed carriers typically hold higher limits. We send the carrier's coverage details with your quote so you can check it against the value of the car.

Payment and paperwork

How do I pay for a car?

Wire transfer or cashier's check. A deposit holds the car while you arrange funds, transport or an inspection, and the balance is due before the car ships.

How does the title work if I'm out of state?

We sign the Pennsylvania title over to you and send it with the bill of sale and odometer statement; you register the car in your home state. We have sold to all 50 states and can tell you what your DMV will ask for.
